Sales teams are the backbone of many businesses, responsible for driving revenue growth and ensuring the company’s success. Unfortunately, despite a company potentially leading to failure without them, the work of sales teams is often undervalued and misunderstood among the general public. In today’s blog, we’ll go through 10 commonly overlooked reasons why sales teams and sales disclosures are absolutely crucial to your business, including the potential legal and reputational risks that they are protecting your company from.

1. Revenue Generation
As mentioned in the introduction of our blog, sales teams are responsible for generating revenue for your company. This means that they will work very closely with your business’s products or services, as well as with customers in order to drive some form of action that will result in a purchase. Customers bring money to the table, and in order to bring customers to that table, a sales team is required to pave the way.
2. Customer Relationships
Just as your sales team knows the ins and outs of your product or service in order to “sell it” in the best, most positive way possible, they also need to know the ins and outs of your consumers. To do that, sales teams are also in charge of building relationships with your target audience, including potential customers or loyal customers. They work to understand the needs, preferences, and buying habits of customers in order to build trust and rapport with them—which will potentially lead to several sales disclosures.
3. Market Research
On top of working closely with your product and building relationships with your target market, your sales team is also often on the front lines of the market interacting with potential customers, as well as gathering very important information about what they want or need. Additionally, they can even gather information about what your consumer’s thoughts on your competitors are, as well as what they are doing differently, or why they may prefer you over them, or vice versa.
4. Brand Awareness
Last week, we discussed several competitive advantages that are offered by having a brand identity, but brand awareness is also an important part of the business that can help create that identity. Sales teams help in that department, building brand awareness by promoting the company’s products or services to potential consumers, while creating a positive image for them, as well as your company. This can significantly boost your reputation in the marketplace, setting the foundation for a brand identity.
5. Competitive Advantage
As mentioned with the ability to retain feedback from consumers about their thoughts on your product, they can also gain information about the market’s thoughts on your competitors. Understanding what your competitor is doing differently can be the key to gaining one step ahead of them. Moreover, in the world of small businesses, having a sales team can absolutely push competition out of the way, as most small businesses aren’t equipped with such luxury yet; selling your products more efficiently than your small business competitors will also drive their potential consumers to you, instead.
The Role of Sales Disclosures
Sales disclosing is, just like your sales team, a major backbone in the lifespan of a business. They are designed to provide customers with information about what you have to offer as a merchant, which will influence how they will consider purchasing—this includes information regarding your pricing, features, benefits, and potential risks. Below are the five overlooked reasons why sales disclosures are important to your business.
1. Transparency
A benefit that will absolutely change the way consumers view your product and services is transparency, which is exactly a perk that sales disclosure provides. They provide your customers with transparent information about the product or service they are considering purchasing—which will help build trust and credibility.
2. Legal Compliance
Sales disclosures are often required by law to provide precise, accurate, and complete information about your company, your products, and your services. Failure to comply will not only negatively impact your company’s reputation, but also result in potential legal action against you.
3. Customer Protection
Another reason why sales disclosure is so important to a business is due to its ability to help protect customers from fraudulent or misleading sales practices. As mentioned several times already, the more honest, accurate, complete, and transparent the information provided is, the better they are able to make informed decisions about your product.
4. Reputation Management
As briefly mentioned in our second and third reasons, having sales disclosure will ultimately help your business’s reputation increase. Be honest and transparent with not only what you are selling, but how you, your sales team, or the marketing of your products or services are being addressed. Outside of avoiding legal issues, you will significantly improve and protect your company’s reputation and credibility thanks to ethical business practices.
5. Sales Effectiveness
Our last reasoning for why sales disclosure is so incredibly important to any and every business is due to their sales effectiveness. Customers can be very picky; however, sales disclosure can be the difference between a potential customer seeing the value and being willing to pay for your product, or vice versa.
